The Seminar on Ocean Innovation and Transformative Technologies was designed to expand the discussions and actions to face the Planetary crises considering the Ocean as a central player towards Sustainable Development.
The Seminar will have the distinguished presence of representatives of the Organization of the American States (OAS), authorities of the University of São Paulo, São Paulo state, and Ministry of External Affairs, directors of the Prospecta Americas Network of Centers of Excellence, coordinators of the thematic pillars of the USP/CNRS IRC, among other special guests.
With a diversified program, the Seminar will start with the Ceremony for recognition of the Center of Excellence on Ocean Innovation and Transformative Technologies of the University of São Paulo (Inova Oceano - Cátedra UNESCO para a Sustentabilidade do Oceano) as a member of the OAS network of Centers of Excellence on Transformative Technologies, as part of the network of OAS Centers of Excellence in the Framework of the Inter-American Commission on Science and Technology (COMCYT) and Prospecta Americas.
Considering the role of the UNESCO Chair for Ocean Sustainability in bringing together people and efforts from diverse national and international institutions to advance the ocean agenda and foster integrated and interdisciplinary research, technological development, innovation, Ocean Literacy, and decision-making for the sustainability of the ocean, the creation of this Center will expand and strengthen regional cooperation in scientific, technological and innovation development in the Americas, with the ocean as a connector of different approaches.
The OAS Center of Excellence on Ocean Innovation and Transformative Technologies will contribute to the growing efforts of the University of São Paulo in the development of ocean sciences, such as the Ocean Pillar established at the International Research Center (IRC) of the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) at the University of São Paulo. The OAS Center and the IRC Ocean Pillar will have a converging agenda planned and implemented in synergy.
